April 16 Gathering infoTwo weeks ago, every colleges I apply for eventually announced their decisions.
It had been a mixture of emotional circumstance, while you hoped to hear good news being showed on your computer (and, of course, with your name.)
Most are happy, satisfied by their top choice colleges.
Some taste a bitterness, but still have alternative which is more or less pleasure.
Few get disappointed, receiving a thin letter enclosing a formal condolence.
I am one of a few ... as expected

*For those who don't know, waitlist, as it's shown, means you have a chance to get into if college has enough space and you can impress them.
So, what's next ?
Before May 1, I have to reserve my seat in one and only one college.
My task is to choose one among green. That's an easy task ... Almost everyone, and even myself, point at UIUC
Reason ? Probably Thai population. There are many who understand me and I can get help anytime. Moreover, at least 2 of TS50 will attend there.
I have heard that it's extremely torturous freezing, located in the middle of corn field. And I suppose that mathematics department can fulfill my desire.
But that's not it.
Look at the orange texts, they are still sparkling slightly.
For some reason, I decided to visit Williams college once (even though nothing can gaurantee what is gonna happen.)
Basic information
Located in Massashusett, Williams is the liberal art college, where students are encouraged to study in various fields, not concentrating in any speific area.
Due to the fact that it's small liberal art, there are only 2000 students in a small campus.
Fortunately, the very strong academic and the popularity in economic, mathematics and art history raises Williams college to "the best liberal art college" according to U.S.News.

How did I like it ? The most controversial question ever ...
Well, it's OK. I mean I hardly really hate any place.
Location :
What I have seen are small college without boundaries, rural, surrounded by mountain, cold weather (but not much different from NY), small & warm society.
To sum it up, it's what I have ever known and expected before.
Despite of its location isolated from civilization, there are tiny downtown, mall, bank, and super market to affirm that if I study here, I have enough facilities to live.
Ummm ... I am pretty sure that I can live here for 4 years, so let move other factors.
Academic :
No doubt; mathematics here is very famous and at least 3 Thai scholars are majoring (and had been majoring) in math. Although they provide courses less than other large colleges, courses and teacher are challenging (aspect of P'P') That's attractive, isn't it ?
Community :
Because it is a small college the bond between students is stronger. "You will know almost everone in campus" (P'Aom, Williams college)
Group activity strengthens friendship through "Entry", which assigns freshmen in a group to live together.
Also, it offers small class and accessible professor, an advantage that most college are lack of.
Miscellany :
Wholesome food - I can have a fresh milk and vegetable from farms nearby. Dining hall is also delicious (I should say food, not hall itself)
Allowance - maximum rate $1400 for some reason "we are rich because we have no place to spend money" (P'Aom)
Cold - Imagine the college among forest under snow pile ... surprisingly, it's less cold than UIUC, where wind blows severly.
Small Thai population - About 7 Thai will be studying there...no comment ...
Overall, Williams is great !!!
If possble, many people recommend me to go there too. Such a nice place.
However, I still have some concerns.
1) Is it too cold for me ? It is, even though UIUC is colder. UVA weather is very nice, snow only once a year. But I don't want to weight on weather too much.
2) Does liberal art suit me ? The requirements are 2 from art/music/langauge, 2 from humanity (econ/philosophy), and 2 from science (math/physics) I am sort of scientist, so I would prefer intense materials. I am too lazy, so unwanted courses might kill me. P'P' also warned that workload is about 6 hrs. per day ... I can't imagine that.
3) Am I good enough ? Waitlist never gives a certainty. Although people who got waitlist in last two years were changed to 'accepted', I have no clue what can happen with me. Rejected from many colleges is not a good reputation.
After thinking a lot, I will go for it.
All I can do is struggle.
I am suggested to write a letter to show my interest in college, stating what I have done recently, why I like to study here, and, most important, confirm that "If chance comes, I will definitely attend Williams."
I will ask my teacher, my dorm parent, and Williams alumni [they are the same person :)] to write a recommendation for me.
My colelge counselor will send my grade, and probably, along with her recommendation.
And ... I would pray.
I will not die if I miss this chance, but at least I should give it a try.
About UVA ? I will send them a letter as well. Nevertheless, I can't assure them that I will enroll. Just a letter wishing that I can come out of waitlst.
But if I don't hear any responde, I will deposit for UIUC first.
If I do, it will take place after May 1. It can be so late that I already fly back to Thailand. *sign* ... such a long wait.
Uncertainty, challenging, unpredictable

[ ภาคหนึ่ง ] แดดส่องฟ้าใส ดอกไม้ผลิบาน ณ Washington DC
ก้าวเท้าลงจากรถบัส ก็สัมผัสได้ถึงอากาศเย็นสบาย กับทัศนะของต้นไม้ผลิดอก ที่ไม่ได้เห็นกว่า 4 เดือน ร่อนเร่ตามที่พี่บอกไว้จนถึงที่หมาย แต่ไม่ถึงซะทีเดียว เพราะหาตึกไม่เจอ ... ไม่นึกว่าจะออกแนวบ้านพักมากกว่าสำนักงาน เปิดประตูหน้าตึกอิฐสีส้ม ความประทับใจแรกหลังจากเดินเข้าไป คือ "ข้าวเหนียวหมู" เป็นอาหาร(ค่อนข้าง)ไทยที่แก้หิวหลังจากเดินทางกว่า 6 ชั่วโมง เนื่องจากตอนนั้นเพื่อนๆยกโขยงมากันล้นหลาม เลยโดยย้ายไปอยู่ห้องใต้ดิน ข้างๆห้องครัว ถึงอากาศจะอบ มีท่อน้ำตระหง่านอยู่เหนือหัว แต่ก็ได้เตียงคู่หรูหรา กับความเป็นส่วนตัวมาแทน
บรรยากาศ Stony Point กลับมาอีกครั้ง เมื่อภาพห้องนั่งเล่นเบื้องหน้า เป็นคอมพิวเตอร์ สายไฟระโยงระยาง ตู้น้ำ และไม่โครเวฟ ชีวิตประจำวันของผู้คนที่นี่ เค้าจะไปเที่ยวข้างนอกกันตอนสายๆ กลับมาทำกับข้าวกันตอนเย็นๆ แล้วก็ดูหนังฟังเกมกันตอนดึกๆ แล้วก็จะตื่นสายๆเพื่อไปเที่ยว วนไปมาเป็นวงจรชีวิตที่ไม่ค่อยมีแก่นสารดี อ้อ ความพิเศษของที่นี่อีกอย่าง พี่ๆที่สำนักงานนักเรียนเค้าจัดกิจกรรมให้ทำด้วยหละ บางวันก็พาไปพบผู้ใหญ่ (หมายถึงท่านฑูตที่ทำงานอยู่ที่นี่นะ) ว่างๆก็สอนรำไทยกับเต้นซัลซ่า หิวๆก็เปิดครัว วางครก แล้วยกมะละกอมาทำส้มตำทานกันเอง เค้าพาไปวัดด้วยนะ ชื่อ “วัดไทยในกรุงวอชิงตันดีซี” ถึงบรรยากาศภายนอกจะไม่ระยิบระยับเท่าวัดที่ไทย แต่ภายในศาลาเค้าก็มีพระพุทธรูปองค์ใหญ่ กับปัจจัยครบถ้วน เรียกได้ว่าถ้าถ่ายรูปแต่ข้างใน คงบอกไม่ถูกแน่ว่าเป็นวัดในเมืองนอก
บางวันท้องฟ้าแจ่มใส ก็ไปโลดแล่นข้างนอกกัน เค้าว่ากันว่าที่ Washington DC มีพิพิทธภัณฑ์ให้เข้าไม่รู้จักหมด ซึ่งก็จริงของเขา มีตั้งแต่ Art, Air & Space, Postal, Natural History หรือถ้าเป็นพวกอนุสรณ์สถานก็มี Lincoln, Jefferson, World War, Vietnam War และก็ที่ห้ามพลาดคือ Washington Monument ตั้งเด่นใจกลางเมือง ต้องตื่นไปเอาบัตรแต่เช้าตรู่เพื่อจะได้ขึ้นไปชมทัศนียภาพของเมืองจากความสูง 500 ฟุต !!! เดินขาลากกว่าสามสี่ชั่วโมง ก็กลับมาสังสรรค์กับกลุ่มเพื่อน เริ่มที่อาหารค่ำที่มีตี๋เป็นพ่อครัวใหญ่ แน่นอนว่า อาหารไทย แถมบางมื้อพี่ๆก็ใจดีซื้อขนมหวานมาให้กินด้วย หม่ำไป เม้าท์ไป หรรษากับบรรยากาศครอบครัว อ้อ ต้องหลบกระสุนปิงปองด้วย เค้าตั้งโต๊ะปิงปองข้างๆโต๊ะกับข้าว แล้วคนที่กินเสร็จก็ตบกันอย่างเมามัน (ปิงปองนะ) อิ่มเรียบร้อย ก็ถึงเวลาแห่งความไร้สาระที่สุด เวลาที่เครื่องปั่นไฟอาจจะชำรุดได้ เพราะเกือบทุกคน จะนั่งจดจ่อหน้าจอสี่เหลี่ยม เล่นเกม ดูหนัง ทำเปเปอร์ จองตั๋วเครื่องบินกลับโรงเรียน ก็แล้วแต่ศรัทธา 9 วันผ่านไปเหมือนสายลม "เวลานั้นน้อยเกินไปต้องทำใจโบกมืออำลา" เสียงหัวเราะ ภาษาไทย เหลือไว้แต่ความทรงจำสีใส กับภาพถ่ายสีสด คงจะไม่ได้เจอเพื่อนหลายคนจนปิดเทอมกลับไทย แต่ไม่เป็นไร อย่างน้อยเราก็ได้เจอกันแหละน่า งานเลี้ยงย่อมมีวันเลิกรา แต่ใช่ว่าเราจะมีงานเลี้ยงอีกไม่ได้นี่ ... :: วัดไทยในกรุงวอชิงตันดีซี ::

[ ภาคสอง ] เดินทางลงใต้ เพลินใจวิจิตร ชิวิตสันต์สุข ณ Duke University
มีแต่คนว่าที่นี่สวย ด้วยความอยากรู้ จึงนั่งรถไฟกว่า 6 ชั่วโมง เพื่อมาพิสูจน์กับตา ภาพแรกที่เห็นคือ ... ภาพหอพัก (เหอๆ) แน่หละ ก็เราต้องไปอยู่ห้องรุ่นพี่นี่นา จุดขายแรกของที่นี่คือ อากาศ เพราะมหาวิทยาลัยนี่อยู่ส่วนใต้ เลยอากาศอุ่นสบายตอนช่วงฤดูใบไม้ผลิ ขนาดที่เก็บ Sweater ใส่กล่องได้เลย (อ้อ ที่นี่ก็มีหิมะนะ แต่ตกปีละสองวัน ..) บรรยากาศในมหาวิทยาลัยเรียกได้ว่าแปลกตา ต่างจากที่อื่นที่เคยไปมาก ถึงตึกจะเป็นตึกหินส่วนใหญ่ แต่ก็ไม่ดูน่าเบื่อ มีสนามหญ้าอยู่ตรงกลาง และตึกล้อมรอบ อย่างอื่น อธิบายไม่ถูก แต่บอกได้แน่ๆว่า "ประทับใจมากๆ"
อยู่นี่มีเพื่อนร่วมรุ่นมาคนเดียว ฉะนั้นเราเลยได้เจอแต่รุ่นพี่ รุ่นพี่ที่นี่ก็เยอะมากมาย และแน่นอนว่าดูแลเราเต็มที่ (สงสัยเพราะกลุ่มเรามีคนน้อยมั้ง) ทั่วๆไป ก็เดินเที่ยวมหาลัย ลองไปเรียนเลขกับพี่ๆเล่น (เรียนตั้งสามคาบ เข้าใจสองคาบแน่ะ) ด้วยความที่ว่า มันเป็น "ป่า" พื้นที่เค้าเลยมีให้ใช้เหลือเฟือ ดังนั้นตึกก็จะดูระเกะระกะ แล้วเดินไปมาทีนี่ก็เป็น 10 นาทีได้ แถมบางหอก็จะอยู่ไกลขนาดที่ต้องนั่งรถบัส 5 นาที ท่าจะไม่เหมาะกับคนที่ตื่นสายแล้วกลัววิ่งไปเรียนไม่ทัน ที่น่ากลัวคือ เดินเกือบทั้งวัน 2-3 ต่อกันก็ยังเรียกได้ว่าไม่ทั่ว เดินไปตีกเรียน ห้องสมุดมหีมา Student Center ร้านอาหารที่กินไม่ซ้ำแต่ละมื้อ Gym หอพักพี่ๆ Duke Garden (อันนี้เรียกว่า ถ้ามาแล้วไม่ไปดู ถือว่ามาไม่ถึง Duke) โอ้ย ... สารพัด นอกจากเดินระเหเร่ร่อน ก็มีไปเล่นพูล ตีแบด วิ่งชมสวน (เล่นกีฬาเยอะกว่าที่โรงเรียนอีก ...) เรียกได้ว่า ว่างไม่ได้เลย ว่างทีต้องมีพี่ๆมาชวน
อ้อ ขาดไม่ได้ พี่ๆที่นี่เค้าดูแลดีมากๆๆๆๆ พาไปไหนมาไหนตลอด คนไหนไม่ว่างก็จะมีอีกคนมาดูแลแทน แถมเลี้ยงอาหารบ่อยๆจนเกรงใจมากมาย (ซูชิครึ่งราคา อร่อยมากๆๆ) แล้วที่ดีอีกอย่างคือ พี่ๆเค้าอ่าน คุโรมาตี้ กันด้วย !!! อ้าว ไม่ดีหรอ ...
เริ่มรู้สึกเสียดายที่อยู่น้อยไปนิด น่าจะอยู่ชมความงามอีกหน่อย ...

[ภาคพิเศษ] After story
ถึงเวลาเดินทางกลับ เรื่องที่อยากเล่ามากคือ ความ "ประทับใจ" ต่อบริษัทรถไฟ ที่มีชื่อว่า Amtrak
ประทับใจแรก - รถหาย !!! ก็ไม่เชิงขนาดนั้น คืออยู่ๆรถไฟก็งอนไม่ยอมวิ่ง ด้วยเหตุผลอะไรก็ตามแต่ เราก็เลยต้องอยุ่ Duke ต่ออีกวันหนึ่ง (ดีหรือเปล่าเนี่ย) ประทับใจสอง - รถเลื่อน ตัํวที่ซื้อไปคือ 9 ชั่วโมง (เยอะอยู่นะ) แต่รถรอบนั้นดันไม่วิ่งจนถึงวันอาทิตย์ เราเลยต้องใช้รถไฟอีกสายนึง ที่ใช้เวลาเดินทาง 12 ชั่วโมง (ดีเนอะ ไม่เสียตังค์เพิ่ม แต่ได้เวลาเพิ่ม) ประทับใจสาม - รถนิ่ง นิ่ง ... ไม่ใช่นิ่งเฉย นิ่งกลางรางรถไฟเนี่ยหละ นิ่งแบบไม่มีปี่มีขลุ่ย นิ่งแบบไม่รู้ว่าเกิดอะไรขึ้น 3 ชั่วโมงได้ แถมลงจากรถก็ไม่ได้อีก แต่ยังดีที่เค้าแจกขนมกับน้ำให้ (ดีหรอ ? น้อยไปด้วยซ้ำ) ประทับใจสี่ - รถไม่มา กว่าจะถึงสถานีที่ต้องเปลี่ยนรถ ก็เลทไป 3 ชั่วโมงแล้ว รถไฟที่ต้องนั่งก็ไม่มา ก็แน่หละรางเดียวกัน เลยเลทเหมือนกัน เลทไปอีก 2 ชั่วโมงได้ (ตอนนี้รู้ว่า เกิดอุบัติเหตุวันก่อน เลยใช้ได้แค่รางเดียว) ประทับใจห้า - รถอ้อม อันนี้ประทับใจสุด หลังจากที่ถึง Philadelphia ด้วยเวลาเดินทางรวม 17 ชั่วโมง !!! อ่านไม่ผิดหรอก เพิ่มอีกครึ่งชั่วโมงก็นั่งเครื่องบินกลับบ้านได้เลย ถึงที่นู่นตอนตีสาม ... จากกำหนดการตอนแรกที่ควรจะเจอรุ่นพี่ตอนทุ่มนึง พี่ๆก็เดือดร้อนตามหาเราเหมือนกัน อ้อ ที่บอกว่ารถอ้อม คือรถคันแรกที่เรานั่งน่ะ มันก็มา Philadelphia เหมือนกัน ... แต่คนขายตัํวให้เรานั่งสองต่อทำ___ อะไรไม่รู้ เสียเวลามากมาย
สรุป จากกำหนดการที่จะมา Philly สองวันกว่า ตอนนี้ก็เลยเหลือวันนิดๆ เรียกได้ว่าไม่ได้ทำอะไรมากนอกจากไปคุย เดินเล่นแป๊บๆ แล้วก็เอาของที่ลืมครั้งก่อนคืนมา นิทานเรื่องนี้สอนให้รู้ว่า ... อย่านั่ง Amtrak นานเกินไป ไม่งั้นจะได้ชั่วโมงเดินทางเพิ่มฟรีๆ ... จบ
เฮือก ... เวลาหมดแล้ว ต้องนั่งรถกลับโรงเรียนแล้วสิ ลาก่อน ... วันหยุดแสนสุข ลาก่อน ... ภาษาไทย 24 ชั่วโมง หวังว่าเราคงได้เจอกันใหม่นะ ไม่สิ หวังว่าเราคงได้เจออะไรดีๆแบบนี้ใหม่ดีกว่า ขอบคุณที่อ่านนะ แล้วจะแบ่งความสุขใส่กล่องไปให้ทีหลังหละ รอรับด้วย (อ้อ ลงรูปแล้วนะ)
